Richard D. Talbert graduated with honors from Texas A&M in 1979 with a degree in accounting while working part-time doing title examinations for a local title company. He subsequently entered Baylor Law School, where he was the recipient of the Lawyer’s Co-Operative Publishing/Bancroft Whitney award as the Outstanding Student in Trusts and Estate Planning. After graduating from Baylor Law School in 1982, he entered private practice. He started his own practice in 1986 with an emphasis on estate planning, business, and real estate transactions. In 1988, he also became a licensed CPA (certified public accountant) while still practicing law.
